Fake Holidays

So today is Columbus Day, the day each year that postal workers and bank employees celebrate our thievery of this great land from the Native Americans. Nothing like genocide to make a person feel festive.
I don’t get this as a holiday. Who celebrates this day? In what way?

This is a fake holiday designed to get federal employees more days of vacation, and for that achievement they deserve some recognition. But I feel certain that if Hallmark can make Secretary’s Day something for which I am required to purchase printed cardboard, then if there were any merit to this day, they would have found it by now and advertised it to me.
